DNA Databasing

Unmatched DNA Databasing Support

Bode offers unmatched DNA databasing experience through 25 years of DNA databasing services for our clients.

  • Experience: Bode has processed more than 2.5 million DNA databasing samples for our clients, more than any other private laboratory in the United States.

  • Trusted: Bode has provided DNA databasing support for more than 30 clients in 26 states.

  • High-throughput: Bode’s projects have ranged from 250 samples to as large as 280,000 samples. Typical reporting batch sizes have ranged from 200 to 6,000 samples per month with turnaround times ranging from 5 days to 45 days.

  • Capacity Enhancement: Bode has demonstrated the capacity to test over 20,000 databasing samples per month and is currently processing between 8,000 -10,000 databasing samples per month.

  • Sustained Impact: Bode has demonstrated capacity to test more than 200,000 samples per year. While backlogs are down across the country, Bode’s databasing team has still processed 75,000-130,000 samples per year over the past 5 years, with a minimum of 5,000 samples tested each month.

 Optimized Workflows and High-Success Rates

Through our experience, Bode has developed a highly automated and optimized procedure for processing Bode Buccal DNA Collectors, Treated Cards and Cotton swabs.  The automated process enables high throughput, fast turnaround time, and high-quality results. The high success rate saves money by avoiding the need for re-testing and re-collection.

Over the past 5 years Bode has obtained full CODIS-eligible DNA profiles from  >99.95% of samples submitted.

Reduced Turnaround

Bode offers expedited turnaround times for many of our DNA databasing projects.  We understand the need for expeditious testing, especially for arrestee sample collections. Bode offers programs with standard turnaround times from 5-days to 30-days.  We also offer rush testing and Rapid DNA analysis to for faster results if needed.

Cost Effective

Bode provides cost-effective processing through ongoing optimization of our internal processes.  Our laboratory strives for efficiency while maintaining quality through the use of automation and sample batching all the way through analysis and reporting.  Additionally, Bode delivers concise and customized data packages to streamline review for our clients.

Most of Bode’s clients have chosen to outsource for more than ten years.  This includes efforts where agencies have chosen to outsource their entire databasing program rather than overflow or surge/ backlog efforts.  This is often because the expense of outsourcing can result in significant cost savings when comparing to performing testing in-house[1].

Advanced Technologies

Bode offers high-volume databasing services for STR and Y-STR technologies.  Bode has maintained a commitment to ongoing training and staying up-to-date on testing methods and current technologies. Bode’s databasing team can provide results on the Globalfiler, PowerPlex Fusion, PowerPlex Fusion 6C, and Investigator 24 plex QS. Bode also offers Y-STR databasing services using PowerPlex Y23.*

Quality Results and Secure

Bode’s program offers high-quality, reproducible results. Bode has enhanced quality through the implementation of:

  • Barcoding
  • Automation
  • Internal database checks

Additionally, Bode’s robust Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) provides detailed sample tracking.  All samples will have a fully documented chain of custody record so the integrity of the samples can be maintained during processing.  The chain of custody documentation from LIMS includes an electronic inventory for all samples received.

Bode will ensure that all file transfers of electronic data are secure.  Currently, the data packages are uploaded to Bode’s secure file transfer protocol (FTP) site, which uses 128-bit encryption.

The Bode Difference

Bode embraces a culture and philosophy necessary for the successful, quality forensic examination of evidence, which spans from initiation of chain of custody to production of final reports and identifications.  Bode is embedded with a culture of forensic science excellence and has an unsurpassed reputation in the forensic community with experience operating under regulatory requirements.
