Crime Scene Collection and Advanced DNA Techniques Workshop

Upcoming Dates: October 7

Bode Technology announces the new Crime Scene Collection and Advanced DNA Techniques Workshop. This is a unique 1-day workshop designed exclusively for experienced crime scene investigators using the most advanced techniques of “touch” DNA evidence collection and technologies. This program is especially designed for those investigating violent crimes, property crimes, auto theft, cold cases, and missing persons. These techniques can be used in any case where the opportunity exists to recover minute amounts of DNA to provide new investigative leads.

Bode Technology is a national leader in the development and use of enhanced DNA methods. Bode’s scientists have validated and offer training in specialized Touch DNA sampling procedures, such as scraping and tape lifting. These methods increase the likelihood of obtaining a DNA profile from the skin cells transferred to an item that has been touched.

This workshop will provide training in the recognition, collection and preservation of touch evidence from a wide variety of crime scene types. The program will be conducted on the premises of the Bode Technology and will include extensive opportunity to observe various collection techniques, interact with laboratory staff of Bode Technology and discuss the interpretation of results. Participants will gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art collection devices.

Workshop agenda includes:

  • Touch DNA and Optimal Sampling Techniques (with practical demonstration)
  • Challenging Evidence and Cold Cases
  • DNA Technology Overview: MiniSTRs, Y-STRs and Mitochondrial DNA
  • DNA Evidence Collection, Packaging, and Storage
  • Collection Devices
