Forensic Biology

We offer several methods of screening samples for the presence of biological fluids such as blood, semen, or saliva. We will first assess all items by Alternate Light Source or visual examination in order to isolate potential body fluid stains. Our analysts are trained in the recovery of hair and determination of hair suitability for nuclear DNA testing.

Controlled Substances

We offer identification and quantification of suspected drug samples following the SWGDRUG guidelines.
Examples include:

  • Marijuana
  • Powder or crystal
  • Analysis of tablets
  • Visual identification of tablets
  • Analysis of syringe contents
  • Analysis of suspected steroid
  • Fingerprint Processing

We can process nearly any item for the presence of latent prints. We follow protocols developed by the FBI. If you are interested in possible DNA testing, we recommend having your samples processed for fingerprints first.

    Examples of items processed include:

  • Firearms
  • Paper, Pens, pencils, office equipment
  • Glasses, plates, silverware
  • Tools
  • Currency
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Toxicology

The most common toxicology request we receive is for blood alcohol testing. Our services currently include the identification and quantification of blood alcohol levels.

    Firearms/Toolmarks

Our experts are court-qualified, trained, and certified firearm examiners. We’ve worked thousands of criminal and civil cases. Our services include but are not limited to comparison and identification of firearms, bullets, cartridge cases, serial number restoration, toolmark comparisons, and distance determination.

    Trace Analysis

We are one of the few private, accredited Trace Analysis/Arson testing laboratories in the country. We offer fire debris analysis and identification of ignitable liquids, for example diesel or gasoline, using ASTM standards.

    Impression Evidence

Our services for impression evidence include the examination of footwear and tiretreads, visualization with an alternate light source, forensic microscopy and photo-documentation.

    Digital Forensics

We specialize in focused, aggressive computer investigations working with traditional investigative resources such as surveillance, research, and interviews. Our forensic staff includes former law enforcement and attorneys experienced in conducting sensitive investigations for corporate and government entities, for example finding, retrieving, and analyzing “hidden” data stored on a computer, PDA, server, or system backup tape.

    Evidence Collection Products

We offer evidence collection products and kits designed to simplify the collection, transportation, and storage of Forensic Evidence. Additional products include our buccal DNA collectors and evidence collection kits.

    Accreditation

Bode’s laboratory is one of the few private facilities worldwide to receive both ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from Forensic Quality Services Division and accreditation from the American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB). Bode also participates in the New York State Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program, and was determined by the NYS DOH to be an approved forensic identity laboratory.

IFL carries both ASCLD-LAB and Texas Department of Public Safety accreditations in Trace Analysis/Arson, Forensic Firearms & Toolmark Analysis, Serial Number Restoration, Impression Evidence, Serology/Biology, Latent Finger Print Processing, and Toxicology.
