SecurSwab 5-O Collectors: Cotton and Foam

SecurSwab 5-O Collectors are designed to collect DNA samples or forensic evidence. The SecurSwab 5-O Collectors have been Ethylene Oxide treated and the devices have been rendered free of human DNA, DNase, and RNase.
The four matching barcodes on the wrapper provide the end-user with control in labeling the sample and help maintain chain-of-custody control.

SecurSwab 5-O Collectors have been validated to collect various biological materials on a variety of surfaces commonly found at crime scenes. The table below shows a matrix of collections that were evaluated for complete DNA profiles.

Collection with a Foam Swab

DNA Collection with a Polyurethane foam swab allows the DNA to more readily bind to the device. This allows for a more concentrated DNA sample during collection that may result in higher DNA yields for more concentrated samples.

Sample DNA Concentration

Drying in Less than 6 Hours

SecurSwab 5-O Collectors dry samples in less than 5-6 hours. 150uL of water was added the one of the swabs to simulate the saturation from a wet/dry collection. Swabs were then sealed reweighed to determine how much of the sample had dried. The data is shown below.
