Statement Regarding Illinois State Police Contract August 22, 2005 We regret that the Illinois State Police has elected to cancel The Bode Technology Group’s contract since we share the state’s goal of using the latest in forensic science to solve crimes. The contract with the ISP involved two services: serology and DNA testing on casework evidence and reference samples. No concerns have been raised regarding the quality of Bode’s DNA testing results. Rather, the issue relates to serology testing results. The serology process involved testing for the presence of sperm cells utilizing a microscopic examination of crime scene evidence slides, instead of using the more prevalent, highly accurate DNA test which Bode recommended. All serology protocols were reviewed and approved by the ISP prior to beginning work on the contract. The ISP and Bode had worked together through June to revise and improve the serology testing protocol in response to the ISP’s concerns. The new methodology was approved by the ISP, but the results have not been reviewed. The Bode Technology Group is world-renowned for the quality and thoroughness of our forensic DNA work. Every day, we help convict the guilty, free the innocent, and bring closure to the families of mass disaster victims based on industry leading technology and processes, many of which we developed. Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact Bode directly.
