Bode Technology moved to a brand new facility in Lorton, VA in August of 2006. We moved to expand our professional capacity. Our usable work space has nearly doubled to more than 39,000 square feet. The space gives us the opportunity to expand our workforce of 100 by almost 50 percent.

The new laboratory has been designed for maximum efficiency – with state of the art reconfigurable equipment and furniture. We maintain a large pre-amp laboratory with smaller connected laboratories for screening, extraction and research and development work. Our validated and automated procedures incorporate modern, advanced instruments and technology.

The mitochondrial DNA laboratory is equipped with positive charge to push air out and a HEPA filtration system to minimize contamination. The large post-amp laboratory has all the equipment necessary to perform DNA analysis on all the approved platforms, including; two Hitachi FMBIO II’s, eleven Applied Biosystem 3100 Genetic Analyzers and a 3130xl Applied Biosystem Genetic Analyzer.

Additionally, there are two Applied Biosystem 7000 Real-Time PCR Systems which are used to perform state of the art DNA quantitation methods.

A total of twenty-four 9700 and three 9600 Applied Biosystem Thermal Cyclers are available for the DNA analysis procedures used in the laboratory.

The layout of the laboratories is designed to allow ready access to supplies and evidence. Additionally, there are vestibules at the entrance of each lab to control air flow and provide a location for lab coats and protective supplies. The vestibules have built-in pass through portals for transfer of samples from one laboratory to the next.

A state of the art security system is combined with a digital video recording system that includes cameras on the exterior of the building and at every entrance and exit. All doors have time-sensitive alarms so they cannot be propped open. Each employee has access only to the areas necessary to perform their job. For example, only lab personnel have access to the laboratory and only evidence management personnel have access to the evidence room.

A LIMS system developed by programmers at Bode Technology provides efficiency in the DNA analysis process, an automated quality review system, and report generation modules.

Our Customer Service Department uses a customer relationship management (CRM) system to track customer information in order to assist customers more efficiently and provide answers to frequently asked questions.
