Bode Technology Revolutionizes Forensic Control and Processing of Specimens with Proprietary RFID System
Leading Provider of Forensic Analysis and Services Securely Tags and Tracks Forensic Samples and Evidence from Crime Scene to Courtroom
NEW YORK, May 26, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) –GlobalOptions Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: GLOI), a leading provider of domestic and international risk management services, today announced that Bode Technology, its forensic DNA analysis and solutions unit, is unveiling radio-frequency identification (RFID) solutions, to improve the overall efficiency, accuracy and security of the forensic analysis and chain-of-custody control process.
Bode Technology is the first, and only, forensic DNA services and products provider in the world to implement and offer an automated and enhanced solution for the tracking of evidence and case folders, including the automation of chain-of-custody control, through its RFID solutions. The Bode-RFID(TM) solutions:
• Securely tracks and facilitates evidence from the point of collection at the crime scene, and establishes an electronic chain-of-custody from the point of collection by the collection of information entered on an RFID enabled handheld reader that automatically catalogues the samples collected.
• Reduces accessioning time, as previously tagged samples are received at the crime lab, they pass through the RFID-enabled portal which automatically identifies each item by reading the RFID tags. RFID enabled badges worn by laboratory personnel are also read. As the items are transferred from one individual to another, the Bode-RFID(TM) system creates a chain-of-custody record by automatically identifying each person, the time and items transferred. The case information can be automatically transmitted to the agency and stored in the case management system before the evidence arrives.
• Efficiently identifies and inventories multiple samples and case information through the Bode-RFID software system, or through RFID-enabled handheld devices, significantly reducing time spent identifying samples, and looking for misplaced items. Portals throughout a facility track all items, and personnel, within zones as they move through the facility. The system will also signal a visual and/or audible alarm, to alert security personnel of items or personnel entering unauthorized areas.
“Bode’s RFID solutions are the next evolution in tracking and securing evidence and case information from the point of collection through final processing. The benefits of our multi-layered RFID solution, represents a substantial jump in our development to improve the capabilities of our state-of-the-art forensic system,” said Barry Watson, CEO of GlobalOptions’ Bode Technology unit. “Our RFID solutions will become important components to assist and advance law enforcement and identification agencies in determining and administering justice.”
